History

Mamamusic is a Ukrainian record label and production company founded by Yuriy Nikitin. Nikitin was born on December 9, 1967, in Kyiv. In the early 1990s, he worked in Moscow as a musician in the band "Avenue" and at the "Mirage" studio. After returning to Kyiv in the summer of 1990, he met Irina Bilyk at the festival "Spring Hopes of the 90s," which is considered the beginning of the Ukrainian show business. Initially, he toured with Bilyk as a bass guitarist. In 1993, he and partners created the production company NOVA, which produced Ukrainian artists. The first artist signed was Irina Bilyk. Her albums "Kuvala zozulia" (1990), "Ya rozkazhu" (1994), "Nova" (1995), and "Tak prosto" (1996) were released. In 1997, the album "Farby" sold about 500,000 copies, a record for the Ukrainian music market. The subsequent tour "Farby neba" was the largest at the time. This record was only matched seven years later by Verka Serduchka, with whom Nikitin began collaborating in 1996. Her album "Ha-ra-sho!" also sold similarly and became diamond. Since 1999, Nikitin has worked under the Mamamusic label. The main artists of Mamamusic remained Irina Bilyk and Verka Serduchka. In 2005, Nikitin began collaborating with the group "Aviator," whose first album "V efire" became gold in Ukraine with over 50,000 copies sold. In 2006, he launched the group "NeAngely," whose first album "Nomer odin" also went gold. In 2007, two more groups joined Mamamusic: "Arktika" and "A.R.M.I.Ya." In 2007, Verka Serduchka and the Mamamusic team participated in the Eurovision Song Contest, where Serduchka placed second. In 2008, Nikitin launched the group "NikitA," whose first hit "Mashina" became one of the most downloaded tracks of the year in Ukraine, and the third single "Veryovki" attracted attention in Europe and Russia. That same year, the new girl group "Hollywood FM" started. In 2007, Nikitin became the music producer of the first Ukrainian "Star Factory" on Novy Kanal, and in 2009 he headed the national channel "Tonis." In 2010, he became the music producer of the vocal show "Superstar" on 1+1, an analogue of the Dutch project PopStar. Artists of Yuriy Nikitin include: KAZKA (2017–present), Verka Serduchka (1997–present), Irina Bilyk (1990–2014), NeAngely (2006–2021), NikitA (2008–2017), Olga Gorbacheva, and ROXOLANA.
