Overview
Mali Air is an Austrian business and charter aviation company headquartered in Möderbrugg, with its operational base at Graz Airport. It was founded in 1994 by Karl-Heinz Mali, initially operating a single twin-engine Cessna 340A under a rental permit. The company later established Mali Air Luftverkehr GmbH in 1997 and obtained a commercial transport permit. Over the years it has operated a range of twin-engine business aircraft, including Piper Aerostar, Cessna 421, Beechcraft King Air, Cessna Citation I/SP, Eclipse 500 and Eclipse 550. In 2017 Mali Air took over Austrian Aviation Training GmbH from Austrian Aircraft Corporation (AAC), adding a flight school with a fleet of eight aircraft and a simulator. Today Mali Air provides charter flights, aircraft management and EASA type rating courses for the Eclipse 550 and Citation 501 through its ATO, while its AAT division offers complete EASA Zero to ATPL pilot training. The company is privately owned and led by founder Karl-Heinz Mali.
History
Mali Air was founded in 1994 by Karl-Heinz Mali, who acquired a twin-engine Cessna 340A (OE-FMH) and started a small aviation operation with a rental permit. The aircraft was based in Graz. In 1997, Karl-Heinz Mali founded Mali Air Luftverkehr Ges.m.b.H., and on 25 July 1997 the company received its operating license for commercial air transport. Between 1997 and 1999, Mali Air mainly operated charter flights from Graz to Eastern Europe. An agreement with an automobile manufacturer in 1999 led to an expansion of flights to Western Europe. From 2000, the company operated several twin-engine business aircraft as owner, including a Piper Aerostar, a Cessna 421 and a Beechcraft King Air. In 2005, a Cessna Citation I/SP was added to the fleet, followed by an Eclipse 500 in 2008 and an Eclipse 550 in 2016. In December 2017, Mali Air took over Austrian Aviation Training GmbH from Austrian Aircraft Corporation - AAC, Österreichische Luftfahrzeug Gesellschaft m.b.H. As of March 2026, the Austrian Aviation Training GmbH fleet consists of 6 aircraft, and the company also operates a flight simulator for the Diamond DA42 and Eclipse 500. As of March 2026, Mali Air's business fleet consists of five business aircraft.
