It is one of Malaysia's leading steel manufacturers, specializing in the production of high tensile steel bars, mild steel bars, and prime steel billets used for construction and infrastructure works. The company's factories are located in Petaling Jaya and Bukit Raja, Klang, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia. Masteel began operations in 1971, founded by the Tai Family. It has a wide network of customers domestically and internationally, including Singapore, Philippines, Australia, Turkey, and China.
History
Malaysia Steel Works (KL) Bhd (Masteel) was founded on 25th of March 1971 by the Tai Family, helmed by the late Mr Tai Chet Siang and Dato' Tai E King J.P. It began operations in 1971, producing commercial grade mild steel round bars and ingots at its rolling mill in Petaling Jaya, Selangor Darul Ehsan, Malaysia. In 1997, the Petaling Jaya mill was upgraded to a fully continuous mill with a new reheating furnace, and the capacity was upgraded to 450,000mt per year. In December 1997, the mill obtained ISO 9001 certification. In 1998, a new Meltshop in Bukit Raja went into commercial production, supplied by Danieli of Italy, becoming one of the most modern meltshops in the ASEAN region.
