Magnolia Medical Technologies is on a mission to deliver breakthrough solutions that advance diagnostic accuracy to support better clinical decisions and improve patient outcomes. History

In 2006, Dr. Richard Patton, former Chief of Pathology at UW Medicine / Northwest Hospital & Medical Center and the co-founder of Magnolia Medical Technologies Inc., designed a clinical study to test the effectiveness of Initial Specimen Diversion Technique (ISDT®), an innovation that he conceived earlier in his career. He went on to author the seminal manuscript on the efficacy of initial specimen diversion for blood culture collection. This study was published in the Journal of Clinical Microbiology in 2010. Magnolia Medical Technologies patented initial specimen diversion for blood culture collection, both the technique, ISDT®, and the technology, Initial Specimen Diversion Device® (ISDD®).
