History
According to Macmillan Education, in 1843 brothers Daniel and Alexander Macmillan founded a publishing company to champion great writing. They soon made their mark on the literary world, publishing works by Lewis Carroll, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Thomas Hardy and Rudyard Kipling. As the company grew, so did the two brothers' belief in the importance of learning. They launched the scientific research journal Nature, followed by the Palgrave imprint, promoting education and academic scholarship around the world. When former British Prime Minister Harold Macmillan became Chairman, he established the company as a world-leading educational publisher with an outstanding reputation. Macmillan Education states that it continues to build on this rich heritage.
