Maahenki Oy is a Finnish training and consulting company. It was founded in 1999 and its majority owner is Maaseudun Sivistysliitto (the Finnish Rural Education Association). Formerly it operated as a book publisher specialising in nature, art and everyday life, with particular strengths in photographic art, Orthodox church art, ITE art by self-taught folk artists, and nature photography. Its Musta taide series of high-quality photographic art books was published by Maahenki. The publisher also released other literature dealing with art, nature and people. Maahenki's books have received several awards, including the State Award for Public Information in 2014 and 2011, and the Nature Book of the Year recognition in 2001, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2015. In January 2017 Johanna Korhonen succeeded Liisa Heikkilä-Palo as artistic director, i.e. publisher, of Maahenki, and at the same time took on the role of CEO when CEO Ulla Sarviala, at her own request, began to focus on the company's marketing. Maahenki has published a few dozen new titles annually. In 2020 Maahenki made a loss of 66,000 euros on a turnover of 129,000 euros. Today Maahenki describes itself as helping clients build open discussion to support decision-making, implementing workshops and coaching, and facilitating events and dialogues centred on respectful and forward-moving exchange. Its experts are known for their knowledge of rural issues, and Maahenki has increased dialogue in numerous Finnish municipalities.
