Lynx Nature Books

Lynx Nature Books is internationally known as a publishing house of reference in ornithology and nature. They are the publishers of the Handbook of the Birds of the World, the first encyclopaedia that treats and illustrates all the birds on the planet. The company was formerly known as Lynx Edicions.

In the early 1980s, Josep del Hoyo, a rural doctor from Catalonia, shared a revolutionary idea with his friend Jordi Sargatal: to document every bird species worldwide in a comprehensive series. Despite initial doubts, Sargatal was eventually persuaded to take on the project. Lacking funding, they sought support from Ramon Mascort, a lawyer and entrepreneur passionate about books and nature, who provided essential financial backing. They were soon joined by Andy Elliott, a Scotsman with expertise in ornithology.
