Overview

lvh.apa Wirtschaftsverband Handwerk und Dienstleister is the trade association for craft and service businesses in South Tyrol (Alto Adige), Italy. Founded on 28 August 1945 as the Landesverband der Handwerker, it was created by photographer Enrico Pedrotti together with 16 craftsmen who wanted to build an interest representation for South Tyrolean crafts. Over more than 75 years it has grown into a broad service organisation that advises and supports small and medium-sized craft enterprises. The association offers a wide range of services, including legal advice, tax and payroll services, business development, financing and funding support, occupational safety and environmental law, family and social affairs, and assistance with business premises. Its legal department, for example, provides free advice on labour law, environmental protection, data protection, and debt collection. The lvh also runs education and training activities and promotes vocational training in crafts. lvh.apa is based in Bolzano (Bozen) and operates across South Tyrol. It is not a commercial company but a membership-based economic association. Its work includes lobbying for better framework conditions for craft businesses, such as reducing bureaucracy and addressing high energy costs, as well as supporting young talent through initiatives like WorldSkills. The association is known for its role in securing important milestones for South Tyrolean crafts, including health insurance, accident insurance, a new crafts regulation, and apprenticeship and vocational school laws.

History

The lvh.apa Wirtschaftsverband Handwerk und Dienstleister was founded on 28 August 1945, then under the name Landesverband der Handwerker. The initiative came from photographer Enrico Pedrotti, who joined with 16 craftsmen to create an interest representation for South Tyrolean crafts. At the time, "craftsmen" referred to various professions listed in a ministerial decree, employing between three and five workers. If a business exceeded that number even briefly, it was immediately classified as an industrial enterprise, resulting in significant back payments. Over the years, and through the association's efforts, this changed, and today there are both small and medium-sized craft businesses. In the years following its founding, various bodies were appointed within the association, including the Direktivrat, the so-called "8er Kommission" tasked with drafting association statutes, and subsequently the first General Council and Executive Committee. In the post-war period, South Tyrolean crafts faced major challenges and needed protection for the trade. Thanks to the foresight of the founding fathers and subsequent leaders of the Landesverband der Handwerker, important milestones were achieved over the years, including health insurance, accident insurance, a new crafts regulation, and a new apprenticeship and vocational school law. Today, the association is known as lvh.apa Wirtschaftsverband Handwerk und Dienstleister and has been active for more than 75 years. It has evolved from a pure interest representation into a comprehensive service organisation. It offers a wide range of services through its lvh-Services platform, including legal advice, tax and payroll services, business development, financing and funding, occupational safety and environmental law, family and social affairs, and assistance with business premises. The association also runs education and training activities and promotes vocational training in crafts. It is headquartered in Bolzano (Bozen) and operates throughout South Tyrol.
