Lux International

Lux International GmbH is a direct sales company based in Germany. Its history dates back to 1901, when AB Lux was founded in Sweden to manufacture and sell a new type of kerosene lamp; the name "Lux" derives from the Latin word for "light". The company later developed high-quality household appliances, including the Lux I vacuum cleaner developed with Axel Wenner-Gren and engineer Sven Carlstedt. Lux International GmbH is a direct sales company based in Germany. Its history dates back to 1901, when the company began in Sweden producing kerosene lamps; the name "Lux" was derived from the Latin word for "light". The designer, craftsman and investor Sven Carlsson (1847–1924) bought the production rights for a new type of kerosene lamp developed by the chemist David Kemp and started the company AB Lux on 19 February 1901 with business partners to manufacture and sell the new Lux lamp. Using the proprietary technology, Lux equipped more than 100 Swedish light houses with its lighting system and was also commissioned to illuminate the Suez Canal. In 1907 the company opened a new plant in Lilla Essingen, but the spread of electric light forced it to change direction and look for new business areas and alternative products. In 1912 Axel Wenner-Gren (1881–1961) joined the company; with the help of Swedish engineer Sven Carlstedt he developed the Lux I vacuum cleaner. Over its history the company has contributed to the development of high-quality household appliances with numerous world-renowned innovations, and Lux has been committed to a healthy home for almost 125 years.
