Overview
Lupulus Brewery (Brasserie Lupulus), formerly known as Brasserie Les Trois Fourquets, is a Belgian family-owned brewery based in the Ardennes village of Courtil, in the municipality of Gouvy, Province of Luxembourg. The brewery was founded in 2003 by Pierre Gobron, one of the creators of the famous Chouffe beer, and is now run with his sons Julien and Tim. Initially established to supply draft malt beverages to a neighboring bistro, the brewery began producing its own beer, Lupulus, in 2007, packaged in champagne-style bottles and kegs. In 2016, the brewery changed its name to Brasserie Lupulus to align with its flagship brand. The brewery is housed in a historic 18th-century square farmhouse, using pure spring water from the Fond du Paradis stream. Lupulus produces a range of Belgian beers, including blonde, brown, fruit, Christmas, organic, and pilsner varieties, as well as contract-brewed beers for other brands. While sold in Belgium, about 70% of production is exported, with major markets in Italy, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Israel, and Asia. The brewery is known for its commitment to tradition, quality, and environmental engagement, and offers guided tours by appointment.
History
The brewery was founded in 2003 as Brasserie Les Trois Fourquets by Pierre Gobron, one of the creators of the Chouffe beer, in the village of Courtil, Gouvy. Initially, it was built to supply draft malt beverages to a neighboring bistro. In 2007, the brewery created a new beer named Lupulus, produced in champagne-style bottles and kegs for regional distribution. For the first four years, only Lupulus Blonde was sold. In 2011, Lupulus Brune was introduced in limited quantities, followed by wider distribution in 2012. In 2013, the Christmas beer Lupulus Hibernatus was launched. In January 2014, the brewery announced an organic beer, Lupulus Organicus, which became available in March 2014. The brewery's beers are sold in Belgium, but about 70% of production is exported, with half going to Italy, and the rest to Switzerland, the Netherlands, Israel, and Asia. The original beers are recognized as Belgian Beer of Wallonia by APAQ-W. At the end of 2016, the brewery changed its name to Brasserie Lupulus. In 2017, a new brewery facility was put into production. The brewery remains family-owned and operated by Pierre Gobron and his sons Julien and Tim.
