Overview

Loterie Romande offers lottery and betting games in the six French-speaking cantons and distributes 100% of its profits to public-benefit associations. Its offering includes scratch tickets, draw games such as EuroMillions, SwissLoto and EuroDreams, sports betting across 26 disciplines, and PMU horse-race betting. The company was founded in 1937.

History

During the economic crisis of the 1930s, the French-speaking cantons decided to unite to help people in precarious situations and the unemployed. On 26 July 1937, Vaud, Fribourg, Valais, Neuchâtel and Geneva founded the 'Société de la Loterie de la Suisse Romande' with a single objective: to distribute all gambling profits to the community. This founding principle was adopted by the canton of Jura upon its foundation in 1979. The Théâtre de Sion hosted the first draw in the history of Loterie Romande on 22 December 1937. In 1969, Loterie Romande, the Interkantonale Landesloterie (ILL), the Bernese lottery 'SEVA' and Sport-Toto joined forces to create 'la Loterie Suisse à numéro'.
