Long Hat House was founded in 2014 by Lucas and João, two computer scientists from Belo Horizonte, Brazil. The pair have worked together since then, developing games they describe as strange and wacky. Their early work includes Magenta Arcade, an arcade-style game. The studio gained wider recognition with Dandara, a metroidvania platformer featuring a unique movement mechanic where the protagonist leaps between surfaces. Dandara was later expanded with Trials of Fear. The studio's name, Long Hat House, reflects an intention to create a welcoming space for collaboration with other creative people. Long Hat House continues to operate as an independent studio, exploring themes from technology, programming, arts, music, narratives, and game design, as well as more obscure subjects like psychology and sociology.
