In 2020, it moved to a new 900+ m² location at Carrer de Pau Claris 94, which also serves as a cultural centre. Since 2022, the bookstore has been led by writer and publisher Iolanda Batallé. History

Llibreria Ona was founded in 1962 by Josep Espar i Ticó and Jordi Úbeda i Bauló during the Francoist dictatorship, with the aim of disseminating books in Catalan only, covering literature, essays, theatre, and poetry. Its first location on Gran Via in Barcelona became a reference point for Catalan culture. In 1972, the founders established the distributor L'Arc de Berà, which handled wholesale of Catalan-language books in Catalonia and the Balearic Islands and also owned the premises of Llibreria Ona. In 1986, the bookstore was awarded the Creu de Sant Jordi by the Government of Catalonia for its work in promoting Catalan language and culture. In 2010, due to financial problems of L'Arc de Berà, the bookstore was forced to close. It reopened in 2013 at Carrer Gran de Gràcia under new ownership and the new name Ona Llibres. In 2020, a new location of over 1,000 m² opened at Carrer de Pau Claris 94, serving also as a cultural centre. Since 2022, the leadership has been in the hands of writer and publisher Iolanda Batallé. The bookstore continues to host numerous cultural activities and maintains a YouTube channel with book recommendations by Juliana Canet.
