Overview
Lletraferit is a Spanish cultural and literary magazine published in Valencian, the Catalan variety spoken in the Valencian Country. It is issued by Llibres de la Drassana and Ediciones Plaza and has become a reference point for Valencian culture. The magazine appears quarterly (quadrimestral, i.e. three times a year) and runs between 84 and 100 full-colour pages, with graphic and textual content produced with close attention to detail and a balance between Valencian subject matter and universal interest. Readers can subscribe for 9.95 euros a year, and individual back issues are sold through the publisher's website at prices ranging from 4.95 to 6.50 euros, with some issues out of stock. The publication has known two distinct stages. The first ran from 1996 to 2008, when it was a bimonthly magazine driven by Felip Bens from the publishing house L'Oronella and reached 88 issues before disappearing. In 2012 it was revived by some members of Bens's literary tertulia, and from then on it has been published by Llibres de la Drassana and Ediciones Plaza, with its frequency changed to quarterly. In 2018 the magazine established the Lletraferit literary awards. Editorially, Lletraferit covers current affairs in Valencian culture and literature, with book reviews, reports on cultural events, and articles on contemporary issues and reappraisals. It has been directed over the years by the young writer and philologist Andreu Tintorer and later by Josep Vicent Miralles. The magazine is closely tied to the Valencian-language publishing ecosystem and to the Drassana imprint, which also sells the magazine and its back catalogue online.
History
Lletraferit was founded in 1996 as a bimonthly magazine promoted by Felip Bens from the publishing house L'Oronella. During this first stage, which lasted until 2008, the magazine published 88 issues and established itself within Valencian literary circles. It then disappeared for several years. In 2012 the magazine was revived by some members of Bens's literary tertulia. From this second stage onward it has been published by Llibres de la Drassana and Ediciones Plaza, and its frequency changed from bimonthly to quarterly. The revived magazine continued to focus on Valencian culture and literature, with book reviews, coverage of cultural events, and articles on current affairs and reappraisals. In 2018 the publication established the Lletraferit literary awards, extending its role from a magazine to a promoter of Valencian literature. Over the years it has been directed by the young writer and philologist Andreu Tintorer and later by Josep Vicent Miralles. The magazine remains active, sold through the Drassana website with individual issues priced between 4.95 and 6.50 euros and annual subscriptions at 9.95 euros.
