Overview

The Livre officiel des origines félines (LOOF) is a French feline federation for the edition of pedigrees. In the 1990s there were nearly twenty feline origin registers in France, which complicated breed management. Following European directive 91/174/CEE, France decided to unify these registers into one. On 11 July 1996, ten associations managing an origin register signed an agreement to create a feline federation for pedigree edition, creating the LOOF. Ronan TANGUY-KEREBEL became the person responsible for implementing the federation and its first president. By the arrêté of 4 November 1996, the LOOF was approved as the federation responsible for keeping the genealogical register for animals of the feline species. The first real Conseil d'Administration of the LOOF took place on 18 November 1996 with 15 clubs, and that same month the centralization of the origin registers became official, making the LOOF the sole origin register recognized by the State.

History

In the 1990s, there were nearly twenty Livres des origines félines in France. Breeders joined the register of their choice, and pedigrees and titles issued at shows were more or less recognized between the different registers. Some even had their own standards and judges. This complicated breed management, did not offer an overview of the sector, and did not allow practices to be unified. Following European directive 91/174/CEE, France decided to unify these registers into one. On 17 July 1992, the first consultation meeting organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry took place, inviting all feline associations or federations keeping a feline origin register. Several working groups were tasked with making proposals. On 11 July 1996, ten associations managing an origin register signed an agreement to create a feline federation for pedigree edition, creating the LOOF. Ronan TANGUY-KEREBEL, parliamentary attaché, became the person responsible for implementing the federation and the first president of the LOOF. With the arrêté of 4 November 1996, the LOOF was approved as the federation responsible for keeping the genealogical register for animals of the feline species. On 18 November 1996, the first real Conseil d'Administration of the LOOF took place with 15 clubs: ACF - AFAP - ANCFF - FFF - CEC CFF - CFP - CFNP - FIC - LFF LOPF - LORF - SCFF - SIF – UNAF. That same month, the centralization of the Livres d'Origines became official, and the LOOF became the sole origin register recognized by the State.
