History

The Lippischer Heimatbund was founded in 1908 in Detmold as the Bund für Heimatschutz und Heimatpflege. In 1909 it began issuing printed annual reports, and by 1912 membership had risen to 300. In 1914 it advocated for a Lippe homeland protection law, which came into force in 1920 due to World War I. In 1925, with the association's support, state lists of natural and architectural monuments worthy of preservation were created. In 1933 the German homeland movement was brought into line (Gleichschaltung), though the Lippe state association initially maintained some independence. In 1942 a new statute integrated it into the NS-Volkskulturwerk, which remained insignificant due to the war. In 1947 association activities resumed as the Lippischer Heimatbund, with temporary close cooperation with other cultural associations. In 1951 the first Lippische Heimattage took place in Lemgo, and they have since been held regularly in various Lippe towns. In 1953 the Lippischer Heimatbund was definitively re-founded with a contemporary statute, including five specialist committees (later called Fachstellen) for monument preservation, building design, nature conservation, literature, and folklore; the first local associations were founded. In 1961, continuing earlier newsletters, the member magazine appeared under the still-current title 'Heimatland Lippe'. In 1970, with the increased incorporation of local associations, membership rose above 4,000. In 1988 membership grew above 10,000 for the first time, and the Lippischer Heimatbund now definitively served as the umbrella organization of most Lippe homeland associations. In 1995 the Fachstelle Heimat, Arbeit und Wirtschaft was founded; the following year the Fachstelle Radwa... (snippet truncated).
