Overview

LINHARDT Group GmbH (stylised LINHARDT) is a German packaging manufacturer headquartered in Viechtach in Bavaria. The company develops and produces aluminium and plastic tubes, aerosol cans and other aluminium packaging such as rigid tubes, cans, sprinkler cans, bottles, cigar tubes and application pens. Its packaging is used in healthcare, beauty and home applications, as well as in the food, tobacco and alcohol industries. According to the German Wikipedia, the Linhardt Group is regarded as the world market leader in the manufacture of aluminium tubes for the pharmaceutical industry. The company was founded in 1943 by Christian Linhardt in Viechtach, and the family business is now in the third and fourth generation of the owner family. It describes itself as a global partner for Healthcare, Beauty and Home packaging, with 70 countries served worldwide, 9 locations and around 1,800 employees. Its product range includes rigid aluminium tubes, plastic tubes, collapsible aluminium tubes, aerosol cans, aluminium bottles, aluminium cans, application pens and cigar tubes. Innovation examples include the TopTube, the NextGen PCR plastic tube, the PCR aluminium tube and the Midi-B. Production in Germany takes place at the headquarters in Viechtach, at Linhardt Pausa GmbH in Pausa and at Linhardt Hambrücken GmbH in Hambrücken. The Viechtach plant is described as the largest tube and can plant in Europe, with nine can lines and nine tube lines. The group also has international sales offices in Milan, Italy and in Delaware in the United States, and four production sites in India following the acquisition of the Pioneer Group in 2024. The group has been led since 2019 by Johannes Schick. The company has expanded through both organic growth and transactions. In 2021 it sold its multiflex/laminate division to Hoffmann-Neopac AG and took over the aluminium tubes division of Nussbaum AG. In 2024 it entered the Asian market by acquiring the Pioneer Group with four Indian locations in Daman, Sanjan, Dahanu and Sancoale (Goa). In August 2024 the former Linhardt GmbH & Co. KG was renamed Linhardt Group GmbH. Linhardt regularly participates in national and international packaging competitions and has won the German Packaging Award several times.

History

The origins of the Linhardt group reach back before the founding of the Viechtach plant. In 1938 Christian and Ernst Linhardt from Rehau took over the Erste Bamberger Metallkapselfabrik Kaufmann & Sohn in Bamberg from its Jewish owner Ernst Neuburger in the course of the Nazi policy of "Arisierung". The takeover price set by the district economic adviser was 190,000 Reichsmark (RM), although a purchase contract a few months earlier had specified 290,000 RM, which led to a subsequent equalisation payment of 68,800 RM. The responsible Gau economic adviser at the time was Ludwig Linhardt from Bayreuth. The Bamberg plant was severely damaged by bomb hits in 1945; production could be resumed in 1949. In 1943 Christian Linhardt founded the plant in Viechtach, which developed into the company headquarters. In 1947 a plastic tube factory was opened in Hambrücken. After the takeover of the former VB Wäscheunion, the construction of the aluminium tube factory in Pausa (Saxony) followed in 1990. The first tube was produced there in March 1991. Between 1996 and 1997, conversion measures were carried out at the Pausa plant for the first time due to company growth. At that time the company recorded revenues of 63 million marks. In the following years Linhardt increasingly expanded its business areas. In 2000, with the "Clean Factory", Linhardt established what was then the industry's first plant with corresponding cleanroom production. In 2003 a new paint warehouse was built, and in 2010 the construction of aerosol can production began at the Viechtach site. In 2012 the joint venture Linhardt Altai OOO with Russian partners followed in Bijsk in Siberia, and Linhardt also started multiflex production. In 2013 and 2024 Linhardt invested increasingly in its sites and logistics. In 2013 a new finished goods warehouse went into operation in Viechtach, and in 2014 all logistics areas at the Viechtach and Pausa sites were renewed or newly built. In 2016 Linhardt invested in new machine lines. The company integrated into the group for toolmaking and product development was relocated to Linden (municipality of Geiersthal) in 2019 and renamed Tec.Point in 2020. In 2019 Linhardt developed a recyclable plastic tube whose body consists of 96 percent plastic waste from the yellow bag or yellow bin. The necessary recycled plastic granulates (Systale) are supplied by Der Grüne Punkt. In 2021 the company sold the multiflex business area founded in 2012 to Hoffmann-Neopac AG and took over the aluminium tubes business area of Nussbaum AG. In the same year all shares in Linhardt GmbH & Co. KG were taken over by one shareholder from the founding family. The family includes grandchildren and great-grandchildren of company founder Christian Linhardt. Previously the shares had been divided among the founder's family branches and held by 13 shareholders. The Russian joint venture Linhardt Altai OOO was abandoned after the outbreak of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine in 2023. The previous co-shareholders took over the shares and the company name was changed to Altai Alupak OOO. In 2023 several construction measures were carried out at the headquarters and at the Tec.Point plant in Linden, including the construction of a new technical centre and training centre in Viechtach. Ventilation systems were retrofitted and in Linden the compressed air supply was modernised and PV systems were installed. In August 2024 Linhardt GmbH & Co. KG was renamed Linhardt Group GmbH. In the same year Linhardt entered the Asian market and acquired the Pioneer Group with four Indian locations in Daman, Sanjan, Dahanu and Sancoale (Goa). The Pioneer Group is also active in the manufacture of packaging for the pharmaceutical industry.
