Overview
Limb Music is a German independent record label based in Hamburg that specialises in heavy metal. It was founded in 1997 as Limb Music Products (often abbreviated LMP) and today operates as a division of Limb Music GmbH. The label is complemented by Limb Music Publishing, a publishing arm established in 1989, and by the mail-order company Forever Rock, which has been part of the operation since 2008. Limb Music is best known for launching and supporting power metal, neoclassical metal and related heavy metal acts. Its first release was the debut album Legendary Tales by Rhapsody in October 1997; that band later split into Rhapsody of Fire and Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. Over the years the label has released records by a series of acts that went on to become established names, including Pagan's Mind, Black Majesty and Mob Rules, as well as by artists who already had a reputation, such as Domain and Wizard. In later years Limb Music also brought classic and out-of-print albums back into circulation through re-releases. The label continues to issue new music and to promote its roster through its official website, which carries news, release information, tour dates, artist pages and a shop. Recent activity highlighted on the site includes singles and videos by the project Moonlit Masquerade, featuring guest vocalists such as Göran Edman and Christian Liljegren alongside guitarist Nick Layton and other well-known metal players. This mix of heritage reissues and new melodic and neoclassical metal releases reflects Limb Music's long-standing position as a specialist independent metal label in Germany.
History
Limb Music was founded in 1997 as Limb Music Products (LMP), an independent label based in Hamburg, Germany, dedicated to heavy metal. Its publishing arm, Limb Music Publishing, had already been established in 1989, and the mail-order company Forever Rock joined the operation in 2008. Today the label is a division of Limb Music GmbH. The label's first release was Legendary Tales, the debut album by the Italian symphonic power metal band Rhapsody, issued in October 1997. Rhapsody became one of Limb Music's best-known signings; the band later split into Rhapsody of Fire and Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. Over the following years Limb Music built a roster that included acts which went on to establish themselves internationally, such as the Norwegian progressive metal band Pagan's Mind, the Australian power metal band Black Majesty and the German metal band Mob Rules. The label also released albums by artists who already had a name in the metal scene, including Domain and Wizard. In later years Limb Music expanded its catalogue activity by reissuing classic and otherwise unavailable albums, keeping older material in circulation alongside new signings. The label's official website presents news, releases, tour dates, artist pages and a shop, and it continues to promote new melodic, power and neoclassical metal projects. Recent announcements include singles and videos by the project Moonlit Masquerade, featuring guest vocalists such as Göran Edman and Christian Liljegren and guitarist Nick Layton, showing that Limb Music remains active in releasing new heavy metal music.
