Overview

Life RESCUE – záchranáři Praha (officially Life RESCUE – záchranáři Praha školicí středisko první pomoci, often shortened to Life RESCUE) is a Czech registered association (zapsaný spolek) that operates as a first aid training centre and public education provider. It was founded in 2001 and is headquartered in Prague. The organisation is active mainly in the Czech Republic, with a focus on the capital and the Central Bohemian Region. It is authorised to run an accredited course for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports (MŠMT) qualification "zdravotník zotavovacích akcí" (health worker for recovery events). Life RESCUE describes itself as the first non-profit organisation in the Czech Republic focused solely on first aid training. Its lecturers are professional rescuers and medics, and training uses high-quality educational models from Ambu, Laerdal and Simulaids. The organisation offers courses for individuals, companies and groups, accredited courses, and courses for parents. It also carries out public awareness activities, especially for children and adults, and for members of individual rescue units of the Integrated Rescue System (IZS). The association is part of the crisis department of Prague 6 municipal district, for which it provides all first aid prevention and training activities. It participates annually in IZS Days and public events such as Children's Day and Fresh Senior. In 2017 it established partnerships with the creators of the Záchranka app and with the crisis management department of Motol University Hospital, cooperating on trauma plan activation drills. From its founding, the director has been Ing. et Bc. Michal Petržela, DiS. The organisation states that financial gain is not its main priority; funds from training are used to improve service quality, create promotional materials and develop teaching aids. This strategy is presented as giving it an exceptional position compared with commercial competitors. Life RESCUE has organised nationwide first aid exercises for volunteer rescuers and Czech Red Cross units under the name Crossing RESCUE, later transformed into a nationwide methodological exercise called Save RESCUE. These took place first in the Prague-West area and later near Svatošské skály in the Karlovy Vary Region.

History

Life RESCUE – záchranáři Praha was established on 13 July 2001, when a decision was made to found a civic association. It was registered a month later in the register of the Ministry of the Interior. The organisation was the first non-profit in the Czech Republic whose sole main activity was increasing awareness of first aid provision, not only among children and adults but also among members of individual rescue units of the Integrated Rescue System. From the beginning, the director has been Ing. et Bc. Michal Petržela, DiS. In 2015, following the new Civil Code, the association had to be re-registered with the registry court and its legal form changed to a registered association (zapsaný spolek). The association is based in Prague and operates on the territory of the Czech Republic, especially in the capital and the Central Bohemian Region. Life RESCUE has organised nationwide first aid exercises for volunteer rescuers and Czech Red Cross units under the name Crossing RESCUE, with patronage from the Prague Emergency Medical Service. Later these were transformed into a nationwide methodological exercise called Save RESCUE. The exercise was first held in the Prague-West area (with patronage from the then Prague-West EMS) and later near Svatošské skály in the Karlovy Vary Region under the patronage of the Karlovy Vary Region EMS. An important element throughout its activity is passing on information necessary for providing first aid in a professional manner using a range of teaching and training aids. The association also focuses on public awareness for the lay public by providing training for employees of companies and enterprises. Awareness events also take place for children, especially at primary schools or camps, with possible demonstrations of rescue equipment. The association is part of the crisis department of the Prague 6 municipal district, for which it provides all activities related to first aid prevention and training. It participates annually in IZS Days and public events such as Children's Day and Fresh Senior. In 2017, a significant partnership was established with the creators of the Záchranka app, which became an important helper for laypeople when calling the emergency medical service operations centre. Further progress was the establishment of cooperation with the crisis management department of Motol University Hospital, where cooperation focuses mainly on the preparation and organisation of trauma plan activation drills. In 2017, cooperation was tested during the "Pražská 155" exercise of emergency service units, where some figurants were transported to Motol University Hospital and used to practise trauma plan activation. By the end of the year, the association was fully organising and preparing trauma plan drills for the children's part of the hospital.
