History

The Liebenzeller Gemeinschaftsverband (LGV) was founded on 28 September 1933 by Heinrich Coerper as a ministry of the Liebenzeller Mission. It initially worked in Württemberg, Baden and Bavaria. Wilhelm Heinsen was tasked with its development and served as its first leader until 1948, when he was succeeded by Pastor Paul Achenbach. The association became legally independent in November 1991 during the tenure of Inspector Alfred Gajan (1973–1996). The LGV is part of the evangelical, pietist and evangelical spectrum and is one of the largest Christian fellowship associations in Germany. It is connected to the Protestant regional churches and belongs to the Evangelischer Gnadauer Gemeinschaftsverband. It is also a member of the Diakonisches Werk Württemberg and remains closely linked to the Liebenzeller Mission and the Süddeutscher Gemeinschaftsverband. Today, the LGV is organized into 47 district fellowships with around 220 locations in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Rhineland-Palatinate and Hesse. Its office is in Bad Liebenzell. Around 130 fellowship pastors, community deacons and youth pastors, along with numerous volunteers, lead local work. The LGV reaches over 19,000 adults, youth and children through its events. In 2023, the Liebenzeller Diakoniewerk e.V. was established to coordinate social and diaconal work. Since 2022, Martin Siehler has been chairman.
