LH Bundeswehr Bekleidungsgesellschaft

LH Bundeswehr Bekleidungsgesellschaft mbH (LHBw), operating as Bw Bekleidungsmanagement GmbH (BwBM), manages the clothing and personal equipment of the Bundeswehr. It was created in 2002 through the privatization of individual Bundeswehr areas and was run as a public-private partnership until 2015, when the Bund took over the shares of the private partners and continued it as a 100% in-house company of the Bund in the portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Defence.

LH Bundeswehr Bekleidungsgesellschaft mbH (LHBw) emerged in 2002 from the privatization of individual areas within the Bundeswehr. Until 2015 the company was operated as a public-private partnership (PPP) to manage the clothing operations of the Bundeswehr. The PPP consisted of the Bund (portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Defence) with a 25.1% stake and the companies Lion Apparel Inc. USA and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co. KG with equal shares of 37.45% each. In addition to continuing the tasks of the Kleiderkasse, LHBw had the further task of building up a third-party business, for which the subsidiary LHD Group GmbH (LHD) was founded. LHD built up a third-party customer business in the areas of workwear and corporate fashion (so-called white business), for which companies in Spain, England, France, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong and Switzerland were also acquired or founded. In 2015 the Bund took over the shares of the private partners Lion Apparel Inc. USA and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics GmbH & Co. KG. LHBw is continued in the form of a GmbH as a 100% in-house company of the Bund (portfolio of the Federal Ministry of Defence). The LHD Group Deutschland GmbH, in which the non-Bundeswehr business was bundled, was sold to an investor in 2016. With the takeover by the Bund, the foundation was laid for the realignment — in the form of concentration on the exclusive customer Bundeswehr — of LHBw and LHD.
