Leu Energie GmbH & Co. KG is a German energy supply company headquartered in Hof in Upper Franconia, Bavaria. It traces its origins to 17 August 1949, when Heinz Leu founded a representation for mineral oil products and asphalts, initially handling customer visits for Esso AG. Over the following decades the business expanded into fuel retail, heating oil distribution and eventually a full energy supplier. In 2001 the operating entity Leu Energie GmbH & Co. KG was established. Leu Energie traces its roots to 17 August 1949, when Heinz Leu founded a representation for mineral oil products and asphalts. The impetus for the founding was that Esso AG was looking for businessmen to handle customer care, and Leu initially took over customer visits for Esso. In 1954, after the transit route to Berlin opened via the B2 in Bavarian Töpen, Leu established a petrol station with a rest stop there. In the following years he continued to expand the company, and after the border opening the business began to grow further. At that time the founder's son, Wolfgang Leu, joined the company and took over management. Under his leadership, a new office building was constructed in Hof in 1959, which has since remained the company headquarters. Through sales partnerships with ExxonMobil and TotalEnergies, the lubricants business was also expanded. In 2023 a new tank farm in Breitengüßbach was commissioned and a cooperation with BayWa AG, a petrol station operator, was entered into.
