Overview
The Lenggrieser Hütte is a mountain hut (Schutzhütte) owned and operated by the Lenggries section of the German Alpine Club (Deutscher Alpenverein, DAV). It sits at 1,338 metres above sea level in the Bavarian Prealps, west of the Seekarkreuz peak (1,601 m), within the municipality of Lenggries in Bavaria, Germany. The hut is open and staffed throughout the year, offering food, drink and accommodation to hikers, climbers and nature lovers. The hut was built in 1949 and 1950 and has been expanded and modernised several times since, notably in 2003 and again in 2020. It has received recognition for its energy supply via a combined heat and power unit (Blockheizkraftwerk) and for its wastewater treatment plant. The facility provides 48 sleeping places and features a sunny terrace with views towards the Karwendel mountains, as well as a traditional, cosy parlour (Stube). The kitchen serves regional specialities. Access is typically from the town of Lenggries (679 m) via several routes: through Schloss Hohenburg, the Hirschbachtal valley and the Sulzersteig (about 2 hours); via Schloss Hohenburg and the Hirschbachsattel on a forest road (3 to 3.5 hours); or via Mühlbach and the Grasleitensteig (2 to 2.5 hours). The hut serves as a base for numerous summit hikes, including the Seekarkreuz (¾ hour), Schönberg (1 hour), Spitz-, Auer- and Ochsenkamp (2 to 4 hours) and Fockenstein (2.5 hours), as well as for ski tours in the Hirschbachtal, Seekarkreuz, Schönberg, Kampen and Fockenstein areas. It is also a waypoint on the transition to the Tegernseer Hütte (1,650 m) via Seekar and Rauhalm (2.5 hours). As a DAV section hut, the Lenggrieser Hütte is a non-profit alpine facility rather than a commercial hotel chain. Its operations are tied to the club's mission of promoting mountain sports and preserving alpine culture. The hut maintains a webcam and provides links to avalanche and weather information for the region.
