Overview
Legitech is a Luxembourg legal publishing house founded in 2006 as a joint venture between the printing house Imprimerie de la Cour Victor Buck and Imprimerie Centrale to publish the Mémorial, the official journal of Luxembourg, following a public tender. From 2007 it expanded into micro legal publishing with the creation of three legal documentation websites — Legitax, Legicorp and Legiwork — and a number of books and codes. The company was led by Nicolas Henckes until 2013, then by Laurence Raphael from 2013 to 2016, and since 2017 by Marc-Olivier Lifrange. Nicolas Buck, CEO of Avanterra and former president of the Union des entreprises luxembourgeoises, is a co-founder and co-shareholder. The loss of the Mémorial C contract, voted by the Chamber of Deputies in 2016 and replaced by the electronic RESA register, had significant economic and social consequences: staff numbers fell from 37 in 2013 to 15 in 2016. From late 2017 and through 2018 Legitech refocused on legal and professional publishing, offering journals, books and training, and launched the LexNow platform in Luxembourg. In 2019 it acquired the Belgian publisher Anthemis, aiming to build a complete multi-support editorial offering in both Belgium and Luxembourg. In March 2022 it acquired the Flemish publisher Contrast books & seminars, renamed LeA Uitgevers, and the same year LexNow expanded into Belgium through a joint venture, ADK Legaltech Solutions, with die Keure-la Charte. Legitech and its subsidiaries publish journals, codes, books and databases, and organise training. Its audience includes legal professionals (lawyers, magistrates, notaries, in-house counsel, HR), economic professions (accountants, auditors) and academics, with publications aimed at Belgium, Luxembourg, the Greater Region and Europe. By 2022 Legitech and its subsidiaries had more than 30 staff, and according to Paperjam subscriptions to LexNow accounted for more than 60% of Legitech's revenue.
History
Legitech was founded in 2006 as a joint venture between the printing house Imprimerie de la Cour Victor Buck and Imprimerie Centrale to publish the Mémorial, the official journal of Luxembourg, following a public tender. In 2007 the company began micro legal publishing, creating three legal documentation websites — Legitax, Legicorp and Legiwork — and publishing a number of books and codes. In 2013 a bill to replace Mémorial C with the electronic Recueil électronique des sociétés et associations (RESA) was discussed. In 2016 the Chamber of Deputies voted to abolish Mémorial C, turning it into an electronic register, the RESA. This abolition caused significant economic and social consequences for the Luxembourg company. From late 2017 and through 2018 Legitech refocused on legal and professional publishing, offering journals, books and training, and launched the LexNow platform in Luxembourg. In 2019 Legitech acquired the Belgian publisher Anthemis, founded in 2005 by three former employees of Groupe Larcier and Wolters Kluwer, with the aim of developing a complete multi-support editorial offering in both Belgium and Luxembourg. In March 2022 Legitech acquired the Flemish publisher Contrast books & seminars, renamed LeA Uitgevers, for an undisclosed amount. The same year, the LexNow platform expanded into Belgium through a joint venture, ADK Legaltech Solutions, with die Keure-la Charte. Legitech has been led by Marc-Olivier Lifrange since 2017; previously it was led by Nicolas Henckes until 2013 and by Laurence Raphael from 2013 to 2016. Staff numbers fell from 37 in 2013 to 15 in 2016 following the abolition of Mémorial C, and by 2022 Legitech and its subsidiaries had more than 30 employees. According to Paperjam, in 2022 subscriptions to LexNow accounted for more than 60% of Legitech's revenue. Nicolas Buck, CEO of Avanterra and former president of the Union des entreprises luxembourgeoises, is a co-founder and co-shareholder.
