Overview

Lattes Editori (full name S. Lattes & C. Editori) is an Italian publishing house founded in Turin in 1893 by Simone Lattes. It is one of Italy's historic school-textbook publishers, with a catalogue aimed at the Italian education system. The company describes itself as combining tradition and innovation in Italian school publishing, producing print and digital textbooks for lower and upper secondary schools. The origins of the house lie in a bookshop opened by Simone Lattes in 1893 in via Garibaldi 3, Turin. Publishing activity began in 1896 with works on Piedmontese theatre and history, and the company gradually developed a strong local and educational identity. Over the twentieth century the business was continued by Simone's son Ernesto and later by his grandson Mario Lattes. Today the publishing house is managed by Renata Lattes. Lattes Editori's catalogue includes more than 40 titles for lower secondary school (Scuola Secondaria di Primo Grado) and around 20 for upper secondary school (Scuola Secondaria di Secondo Grado), in both paper and digital formats. The company also provides teacher training, webinars, and didactic resources, and has published volumes specifically to prepare students for INVALSI national assessments in Italian and Mathematics. The publisher positions itself as attentive to inclusion, diversification of students, and support for families, and it actively responds to Italian curriculum reforms such as the Nuove Indicazioni Nazionali. According to its own corporate history, Lattes has been active for 130 years, has accompanied more than 100 million students, and has published over 1,000 books. It remains a privately held, family-run Italian publishing brand.

History

Lattes Editori was founded in Turin in 1893 by Simone Lattes (Turin 1862–1925), who opened a bookshop under his name at via Garibaldi 3. Publishing activity began soon after: in 1896 the house published Lombardo's work on Piedmontese theatre and Cian's Italia e Spagna nel secolo XVIII, followed in 1897 by several works by Viriglio, including Come si parla a Torino and Torino e i torinesi. The Piedmontese vocation of the publishing house reappeared in later periods with titles such as Boggio's Lo sviluppo edilizio a Torino and Gribaudi's La posizione geografica di Torino (1909), Castellino's Alberto Nota (1912), Telluccini's Il palazzo Madama di Torino (1923), Bettazzi's Emanuele Filiberto (1928), and Cognasso's Storia di Torino (1934). The business was continued by Simone's son Ernesto Lattes (Turin 1886–1937), who served as vice-president under his father's direction and later as president, and then by his grandson Mario Lattes (Turin 1923–2001). Over the twentieth century the company shifted its focus increasingly toward school publishing, becoming a specialist in textbooks for the Italian education system. Today the publishing house is managed by Renata Lattes. According to its official corporate history, Lattes Editori has been active for 130 years, has accompanied more than 100 million students, and has published over 1,000 books. Its current catalogue includes more than 40 titles for lower secondary school and around 20 for upper secondary school, in both print and digital versions. The publisher also offers teacher training, webinars, and didactic materials, and has developed volumes for INVALSI preparation in Italian and Mathematics. It presents itself as attentive to inclusion, student diversity, and family support, and as responsive to Italian curriculum reforms such as the Nuove Indicazioni Nazionali.
