Overview

LANTAL is a Swiss-based company established in 1886. Its journey began with the production of cheese linen, and since 1954 it has specialized in creating aircraft interiors. Today it designs, develops, and manufactures textiles and solutions for the transportation markets of aviation, railway, and buses.

History

Lantal's history began in 1886 when Albert Brand established the Baumann & Brand linen mill in Langenthal, producing linen and linen blends for cheesemakers in the Emmental. In 1930, sons Fritz and Willy Baumann took over and renamed the company Baumann-Grütter Söhne. In 1951, Willy Baumann incorporated Möbelstoffweberei Langenthal AG, focusing on textiles for the furniture industry. In 1954, the company entered aviation when KLM ordered seat cover fabrics. In 1956, it acquired Weberei Meister AG, marking its debut in rail and bus textiles. In 1972, it opened two sales offices in the USA. In 1996, the company became Lantal Textiles AG. In 2003, owners Urs and Renata Baumann divested their majority share to Urs Rickenbacher. In 2017, Lantal acquired Gierlings-Velpor and relocated its ground transport center.
