Overview

Land Equity International Pty Ltd (LEI) is an Australian international development consulting organisation specialising in land administration, land policy and land tenure. Incorporated in 2001 by Tony Burns, Chris Grant, Ian Lloyd and Chris Lunnay — the core members of the land titling team from Hatch Associates Pty Ltd — the company has built a track record delivering land administration development programmes for donors, governments and the private sector. Its stated mission is to improve people's lives by improving land governance and tenure security, working from field documentation of customary tenure through to integrated national information system strategies. LEI operates as a registered Australian business with a global presence, maintaining ISO 9001:2015 accreditation since incorporation. Its service lines include land administration, land systems, property valuation and taxation, governance and institutional strengthening, gender and social inclusion, project and facility management, project design and evaluation, survey, mapping and spatial planning, and research and analysis. Thematic areas include climate change, conflict and land, and socially inclusive land administration. The firm associates with quality partners to deliver medium to large projects and to strengthen its services in national contexts. LEI has worked in more than 35 countries over more than 25 years. Notable engagements include contributing to the World Bank's US$25 million Vanuatu Affordable and Resilient Settlements (VARS) project, supporting the Mekong Region Land Governance initiative (an 11-year programme that improved the lives of 38.5 million smallholder farmers through legal and policy reforms), and the Papua Spatial Planning project in Indonesia, which used improved spatial planning to shift development towards lower-carbon pathways. From 2001 until 2018, Tony Burns served as Managing Director. Dr Kate Rickersey, who joined the company in 2006, took on the Managing Director role in September 2018. LEI describes its culture as a 'family' spirit of respect in its approach to business, employees, contractors and counterparts, and acknowledges the Traditional Custodians of country throughout Australia.
