History

Laika Records & Publishing is a German record company. The jazz and world music label LAIKA-RECORDS operates in the middle of Bremen's old town, overlooking the historic Weser river promenade, and has been producing music successfully since 1989. Fingerstyle guitarist Ulli Bögershausen founded the LAIKA-RECORDS label and the music publishing house in 1989; the name Laika was chosen for phonetic reasons. As a musician, Bögershausen wanted to establish a label independent of short-term marketing strategies, focusing on high musical quality. The label started with recordings by keyboardist Thomas Kessler, followed by Daniel Guggenheim and pianist Christof Sänger, who received awards from the "Deutsche Schallplattenkritik". In 1996, concert agent and economist Peter Cronemeyer took over the label and the music publishing house, allowing Bögershausen to devote more time to his guitar career.
