Overview

Laguna Music is a Malaysian independent record label founded in 2002 by brothers Jeffrey and Jeremy Little, who are also members of the band Prana. Originally established as Laguna Records, the label grew out of the brothers' desire to release their own band's music after a dispute with their previous label, New Southern Records (NSR). The label's first release was Prana's second album, Greenhouse Effect, in 2003, which included the singles "Bird Song" and "If Life Was So Sweet". Over the following years, Laguna expanded its roster to include acts such as Seven Collar T-Shirt, Estrella, Pure Vibracion, Guba Rawantas, Lab The Rat, and Halfway Kings. The label also operates its own recording facility, Greenhouse Studio, and is active in distributing albums by other artists. In March 2007, the business was upgraded to a private limited company and renamed Laguna Music. Laguna Music has been a member of the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM), a non-profit organisation representing music recording distribution and publishing in Malaysia. The label has also collaborated with the convenience store chain 7-Eleven to sell its releases nationwide. Its discography includes albums by Prana, Seven Collar T-Shirt, Estrella, Pure Vibracion, Yuna (distribution only), Pesawat (distribution only), Guba, Lab The Rat, Joe PV, and Halfway Kings, as well as compilation albums such as Her... Compilation (2009), Get This! Indie Compilation (2010), and P. Ramlee: Satu Indiepretasi (2011).

History

Laguna Records was founded in 2002 by Jeffrey Little and his younger brother Jeremy, after their band Prana fell out with their label, New Southern Records (NSR). The label's debut release was Prana's second album, Greenhouse Effect, issued in 2003, with "Bird Song" and "If Life Was So Sweet" released as singles. In the same year, Laguna signed Seven Collar T-Shirt as a roster artist. The label's second release, Drones, also Seven Collar T-Shirt's second album, came out in late 2004. Laguna Records continued to grow with its third release, Prana's third album, Disc 03, in 2005. It was Prana's first album without vocalist Eric Ruffin and bassist Pablo Torrejon. When Prana decided to take a break from music activities, Jeffrey and Jeremy Little began to expand Laguna Records' operations, with Jeffrey handling studio production through Greenhouse Studio and Jeremy handling distribution deals and management. By March 2007, Laguna Records was upgraded to a private limited company (Sendirian Berhad) and changed its name to Laguna Music. The label's discography includes albums by Prana, Seven Collar T-Shirt, Estrella, Pure Vibracion, Yuna (distribution only), Pesawat (distribution only), Guba, Lab The Rat, Joe PV, and Halfway Kings. It also released compilation albums such as Her... Compilation (2009), Get This! Indie Compilation (2010), and P. Ramlee: Satu Indiepretasi (2011). Laguna Music has been a member of the Recording Industry Association of Malaysia (RIM) and has collaborated with the convenience store chain 7-Eleven to sell its releases nationwide.
