History
L'Acadie Vineyards was founded in 2004, when Bruce Ewert and Pauline moved their young family from British Columbia's Okanagan Valley to Nova Scotia, drawn by the region's sparkling wine potential and Pauline's deep Nova Scotia farming roots. The winery is located on 30 acres in the heart of the Gaspereau Valley, on the north-facing side of the valley hills with well-drained, warm schist and sandstone over a highly mineralized ancient seabed. It released the region's first traditional-method sparkling wine in 2008, its first commercial release after experimenting with small lots going back to 2004. Its Prestige Brut received a Gold and was Top Scoring Sparkling at the 2010 Canadian Wine Awards, and its 2007 and 2010 Prestige Brut were awarded silver medals at the Effervescents du Monde competition in France. The winery states it is the first organic vineyard and winery in Nova Scotia, certified by Pro-Cert Organic Systems since inception, and the first certified Biocyclic Vegan operation in North America.
