Overview
La Nuova Italia is a historic Italian publishing house founded in Venice in 1926 by Elda Bossi and her husband Giuseppe Maranini. After a brief period in Perugia, it moved to Florence in 1930 under the direction of Ernesto Codignola, where it became a prominent cultural and educational publisher. The company was long associated with the city of Florence, operating from premises in piazza Indipendenza and later from a building commissioned from architect Edoardo Detti. Over the decades it published influential periodicals such as «Il Ponte», «Scuola e città», and «Conoscenza Religiosa», and series like Il Castoro and Il Castoro Cinema. After the death of Tristano Codignola in 1981 and subsequent ownership changes, the house faced crisis and was sold between 1996 and 1998 to the RCS group. In 2000 it became part of RCS, focusing on school publishing. In 2016, Mondadori Editore acquired the book division of RCS, including La Nuova Italia, which is now a brand within Rizzoli Education, Mondadori's school publishing unit. Today La Nuova Italia is one of the historic imprints of Rizzoli Education, offering textbooks and digital resources for primary and secondary schools in Italy.
History
La Nuova Italia was founded in Venice in 1926 by Elda Bossi and her husband Giuseppe Maranini. After a short period in Perugia, the publishing house moved to Florence in 1930 under the direction of Ernesto Codignola. In Florence, it established its headquarters at piazza Indipendenza 29 from 1958, and in 1972 moved to a building specially commissioned from architect Edoardo Detti in via Antonio Giacomini. The company was later led by Codignola's son Tristano; after his death in 1981, the business passed to his children, but the publishing house entered a crisis and was sold between 1996 and 1998 to the RCS group. In 2000, La Nuova Italia became part of RCS, concentrating on school publishing. In 2016, Mondadori Editore acquired the book division of RCS, which included La Nuova Italia. Since then, La Nuova Italia has been one of the historic brands of Rizzoli Education, Mondadori's school publishing unit, offering textbooks and digital resources for primary and secondary schools.
