History

Löhr-Center is located in an area of Koblenz that was largely destroyed during the heavy air raids of World War II. The site previously housed the railway barracks of the Field Artillery Regiment No. 23. A building of the former Prussian provisions depot had survived the war but was demolished after a fire in 1969. The area, directly adjacent to the Herz-Jesu-Kirche, was subsequently used only as a parking lot. The large space was suitable for the construction of the first major inner-city shopping center. After the construction of Hohenfelderstraße in 1969, the foundation stone was laid on 16 September 1982. Löhr-Center opened on 23 February 1984 and was one of the first shopping centers of its kind in Germany. From 1993 to 1994, it was structurally expanded and optimized. From 2006 to 2008, the lighting was changed and numerous other renovation measures were carried out. For the 2011 Federal Garden Show, the Koblenz Stadtmitte stop was opened directly behind the Löhr-Center on the left Rhine line. After the anchor tenant Globus left the Löhr Center at the beginning of 2015, the two-story retail space was divided. On the 1st upper floor, Rewe moved in as the new anchor tenant in the completely renovated space. At the beginning of 2016, Zara was announced as a new tenant for the ground floor space. In addition, extensive refurbishment for the entire Löhr Center was announced. It was described as the most extensive conversion work since the center opened. Completion occurred after an investment of 33 million euros in spring 2017.
