Overview

Kuwazawa Corporation (株式会社クワザワ) is a Japanese general construction materials trading company headquartered in Shiroishi-ku, Sapporo, Hokkaido. It is the core operating subsidiary of Kuwazawa Holdings Corporation, a company listed on the Tokyo Stock Exchange Prime Market. The business traces its origins to 1933, when Kiyoshi Kuwazawa opened a tile and brick wholesaler in Sapporo. It was incorporated in 1951 and renamed Kuwazawa Corporation in 1971. Today the company operates as a comprehensive construction materials trading house, combining long-cultivated building material sales capabilities with construction contracting capabilities. The company's operations span three main segments: construction materials wholesale, construction contracting, and solar power generation. Its construction materials business handles foundation materials such as ready-mixed concrete, Pozzolith, concrete piles, civil engineering materials, and steel products; building materials including exterior and interior materials, insulation, glass, sashes, and exteriors; and housing equipment such as kitchens, unit baths, and energy-saving residential equipment. As Hokkaido's largest building materials wholesaler, it leverages its network and construction capabilities to deliver safe and reliable products. Its construction contracting business undertakes exterior wall work, interior work, and renovation projects for general contractors, house builders, and building material retailers, from residential projects to large-scale facilities. Kuwazawa also develops private brand products under the concept "Kuwality™," a name combining "Kuwazawa" and "Quality." Products under this brand include waterproofing systems such as "防水番長™" (Bousui Bancho), airtight insulation boxes for LED downlights, and the "魔法のステンレスパッド" (Magic Stainless Pad) cleaning product. The company also offers "Kuwality™ SELECTION," featuring products it handles as a major distributor that share the Kuwality concept. Notable products include "natuRe:stone™" (ナチュリストーン), a thin, lightweight, bendable natural stone sheet for DIY applications. The company operates approximately 20 business locations across Japan, including its Sapporo headquarters, a Tokyo head office, branches in Tomakomai, Doto, Kitami, Hakodate, Asahikawa, Wakkanai, Ibaraki, and Aomori, and offices in Yokohama, Chiba, and Sendai. It is part of the Kuwazawa Group and, since 1999, has formed the NEST Group business alliance with Ochi Sangyo and Japan Veneer (now Jutec). The company is an equity-method affiliate of Taiheiyo Cement. In 2020, the former Kuwazawa Corporation transitioned to a holding company structure and was renamed Kuwazawa Holdings Corporation, while a new Kuwazawa Corporation was established to inherit the operating business.

History

The history of Kuwazawa Corporation begins in 1933 (Showa 8) when Kiyoshi Kuwazawa opened a tile and brick wholesaler in Sapporo under the name "㋝タイル煉瓦問屋." In 1937, the business became an authorized dealer for Toyo Toki (now TOTO), and in 1939 it began handling Asano Cement. In 1949, the name was changed to "㋝桑澤清商店." The business was incorporated on February 1, 1951, as "株式会社桑澤商店" (Kuwazawa Shoten Co., Ltd.). During the 1960s, the company expanded through subsidiaries and infrastructure. In March 1961, it established Sapporo Asano Transport, a subsidiary for cement transportation. In 1962, the current logo mark was adopted. In October 2005, it made Kowa Co., Ltd. a subsidiary, and in December 2005, Wakkana Concrete Co., Ltd. and Higashi Nihon Jiko Co., Ltd. In October 2007, it sold a portion of shares of consolidated subsidiary Hokkaido Kanri Co., Ltd., making it an equity-method affiliate. In July 2011, it made Nikkei Co., Ltd. a subsidiary, and in October 2011, Satsuichi Co., Ltd. In March 2013, it made Yoichi Remicon Co., Ltd. a subsidiary. In October 2014, it absorbed F.K. Tsutai Co., Ltd., and in December 2014, it made Kenzaisha Co., Ltd. a subsidiary, which was absorbed in April 2016. In February 2018, the current Kuwazawa Group head office building was completed.
