Kulturstiftung Dessau-Wörlitz

The Kulturstiftung Dessau-Wörlitz is a non-profit foundation under public law with its seat in Dessau. It is charged with preserving the Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz, including its buildings, gardens and art collections, and making them accessible to the public. It cares for the palaces and parklands of Wörlitz, Oranienbaum, Luisium, Mosigkau and significant scattered properties, which form large parts of the historic Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz, a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. The foundation is supported by the state of Saxony-Anhalt; its organs are the board of trustees (Kuratorium) and the executive board (Vorstand).

The Kulturstiftung Dessau-Wörlitz was established with the end of the monarchy, when the former ducal house of Anhalt took the initiative to transfer the significant holdings of palaces with their inventories and the historic gardens into a foundation. Together with the Anhalt state, the foundation charter of the "Kulturstiftung Dessau-Wörlitz" was signed on 30 December 1918. Over its now hundred-year existence, the foundation has operated under four political systems. It now cares for the palaces and parklands of Wörlitz, Oranienbaum, Luisium, Mosigkau and significant scattered properties, covering the largest parts of the historic Gartenreich Dessau-Wörlitz, which has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 2000. The foundation is a non-profit foundation under public law with its seat in Dessau and is supported by the state of Saxony-Anhalt; its organs are the Kuratorium and the Vorstand.
