PJSC KuibyshevAzot is described on its official site as one of the leading Russian chemical companies, a leader in Russia and Eastern Europe in the output of caprolactam and polyamide, and the largest producer in Russia of technical and textile yarns, cord fabric, and polyamide and blended fabrics. Its main activity areas are caprolactam and its processing products (polyamide-6, technical and textile yarns, tire cord, polyamide and blended fabrics, engineering plastics); ammonia and nitrogen fertilizers; and industrial gases. The company began operations in 1966 and is now the head enterprise of the KuibyshevAzot group of companies, whose divisions operate in Samara, Kursk, Saratov, Ulyanovsk, Rostov and Tula oblasts, Krasnodar Krai, the Republic of Mordovia, Germany, China and Serbia. Its products are supplied to more than 60 countries.

History

Construction of the Kuibyshev Nitrogen Fertilizer Plant (KATZ) began in 1961. In 1966 the enterprise began operating under the full technological scheme, and 23 August 1966 is considered the official date of the plant's birth. In 1975 the production association KuibyshevAzot was created with KATZ as the head enterprise, incorporating the then-under-construction Tolyatti Nitrogen Plant (ToAZ), Azotremmash and Transammiak; in 1981, as a result of restructuring, these were separated into independent legal entities. In 1991 KuibyshevAzot became a leased enterprise, and then in 1992 the joint-stock company KuibyshevAzot was created. During the crisis years of the 1990s, when the country's economic and political model changed, the enterprise, unlike many other plants, managed to keep output of marketable products at the pre-reform level and to retain a highly qualified, stable workforce. The start of the new century was a time of rapid growth for KuibyshevAzot. Within the company's development strategy, aimed at increasing the share of products with higher added value, a project for deep processing of caprolactam has been implemented since 2000. A complex of polyamide-6, technical yarn and cord fabric production facilities was created at the Tolyatti production site, engineering plastics production was commissioned in China, and assets for the production of technical and textile yarns and cord fabric in Kursk and polyamide fabrics in Balashov were acquired. Agro-chemical rail-side bases and a dealer network for the sale of mineral fertilizers were organized. Currently PJSC KuibyshevAzot is a group of companies whose enterprises and divisions are located in various regions.
