History
Kracher is a family winery in Illmitz in the Burgenland Seewinkel that has stood for three generations for noble sweet wines of the highest quality. The grandfather built the estate and the father made it world-famous. Alois Kracher, a trained chemist, joined his father's winery at 22 and created a new dessert wine style in which fruit, finesse and balance matter more than mere sweetness; with the 1991 vintage he first caused an international sensation, and his name became a byword for cult sweet wines, especially in America. Gerhard Kracher, born 1981, leads the Weinlaubenhof Kracher in the third generation; from 2001 he took on responsibility step by step, first as a representative at international events and later also in production, and he has led the winery since 2007.
