Overview
KPT (Krankenkasse Personal Transportunternehmen) is a Swiss health insurance group headquartered in Bern. Originally founded in 1890 as a cooperative sickness fund for railway workers, it has grown into a specialized health insurer serving around 500,000 insured persons. In 2024, with approximately 700 employees, the group reported premium income of 2.4 billion Swiss francs. The group operates through a holding structure comprising two main operating companies: KPT Krankenkasse AG, which handles basic insurance under the Swiss Health Insurance Act (KVG), and KPT Versicherungen AG, which offers supplementary insurance and, to a lesser extent, accident insurance. Basic insurance accounts for roughly three-quarters of total premium income, while supplementary and accident insurance form the second pillar. The KPT Holding is wholly owned by the Genossenschaft KPT (KPT Cooperative). KPT provides digital services including the KPTnet customer portal, which received an innovation award from the Swiss insurance industry in 2007, and the KPT App. The company is a member of the Swiss Insurance Association and, since 2025, of the industry association prio.swiss. It was a member of the health insurer association Curafutura from 2013 until the end of 2023.
