In November 1977 the company localised plating chemicals, and in December 1978 it was converted into a legal corporation under the name Korea Plating Materials Industry Co., Ltd. (한국도금재료공업㈜). In November 1979 it localised automatic plating machinery, and in April 1980 it entered a technical tie-up with Sanjin Seisakusho of Japan to localise surface-treatment filtration equipment. In November 1986 it was selected as a promising small and medium enterprise by KAIST, and in September 1992 it received a Presidential Citation in the machinery localisation category. In July 1995 the company moved to its current factory site. In July 1998 it obtained a patent for a plating solution spray-type plating device, and in September 1999 it was approved to establish the KPM Technology Research Institute.
