History
The Korean Society of Environmental Health and Toxicology was founded on 10 October 1985 as the Korean Society of Environmental Toxicology (한국환경독성학회). The inaugural president was Hong Sa-wook, who served the 1986–1987 term. The founding meeting was held at the Seoul Metropolitan Government Institute of Health and Environment, with special lectures by two Japanese scholars. In its early years, the society established key publications. The first issue of the Environmental Toxicology Newsletter (환경독성학회보) was published in April 1986, and the first volume of the Environmental Toxicology Journal (환경독성학회지) appeared in December 1986. The journal was published quarterly, with issues often combined into double volumes. The society held regular spring and autumn academic conferences, often at the National Institute of Environmental Research or the Seoul Institute of Health and Environment. In February 1991, it joined the Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST). Leadership changed every two years. After Hong Sa-wook, Ahn Young-geun became the second president (1988–1989), followed by Park Jae-ju (1990–1991), Cho Tae-soon (1992–1993), and Choi Byung-ki (1994–1995). The society continued to publish its journal and hold conferences throughout the 1990s and 2000s. Over time, the society broadened its scope to include environmental health alongside toxicology, reflected in its current name. It now publishes the journal Environmental Analysis Health and Toxicology (EAHT) and maintains partnerships with international organizations such as SETAC Asia-Pacific. The society remains active in organizing conferences, training, and awards for researchers in the field.
