Overview

Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe GmbH, known as koveb, has been part of Stadtwerke Koblenz since October 2019 and operates public passenger transport in Koblenz. Its roots go back to the Coblenzer Straßenbahn-Gesellschaft founded in 1886. Today koveb runs a modern bus fleet of around 100 vehicles, 16 daytime lines and 7 night lines, and also operates the Festungsaufzug Ehrenbreitstein.

History

The roots of Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe go back to 1886, when the Coblenzer Straßenbahn-Gesellschaft was founded, laying the foundation for today's koveb. In 1939 it was renamed Koblenzer Elektrizitätswerk und Verkehrs-Aktiengesellschaft (KEVAG). In 1995 the newly founded subsidiary KVS supported KEVAG's transport services and in 2005 became responsible for carrying out transport services. With the merger into Energieversorgung Mittelrhein AG (evm) in July 2014, the transport division was transferred into evm Verkehrs GmbH. Since 1 October 2019 the transport company has carried the new name "Koblenzer Verkehrsbetriebe", short koveb, and has been part of Stadtwerke Koblenz since October 2019. Historically the operation included the Pferdebahn (1887-1901), the "Elektrisch" (1899-1967), the Rittersturz-Bergbahn (1928-1959) and the O-Busbetrieb (1941-1970); first omnibuses appeared from 1939, with stronger use from the mid-1950s, and since 1970 the operation has been exclusively omnibuses.
