Overview

Klosterfelde Edition is a Hamburg-based gallery and publisher specialising in contemporary art editions and multiples. It was founded in 1989 by Helga Maria Klosterfelde, originally to raise funds in support of a successful initiative to turn Hamburg's Deichtorhallen into a site for contemporary art. The production of editions and multiples has remained at the heart of the gallery's work ever since. The company's first premises were on Fleetinsel in Hamburg, where it showed both unique works and editions, collaborating with a wide range of established and emerging artists. In 2006 the gallery opened a showroom on Linienstraße in Berlin, before moving to Potsdamer Straße in 2009. In 2024, after 18 years in Berlin, Klosterfelde Edition moved back to Hamburg, where it all started. Its current address is Isestraße 125, 20149 Hamburg. Since its inception, Klosterfelde Edition has regularly participated in international art fairs such as Art Basel, Gallery Weekend Berlin and Art Cologne, and has made successful contributions to private and public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, Baltimore Museum of Art, Princeton University, Museum Ludwig and the Berlinische Galerie. The gallery represents and publishes works by a range of artists; examples of its editions include Kay Rosen's "Short Story" (1993/2017), a set of three silkscreen prints on MultiCard paper in an edition of 25, and Yuri Pattison's "User story (Modafinil scan, Klein bottle scan, power scan)" (2016), an acrylic box work in an edition of 7. As a gallery and publisher, Klosterfelde Edition operates at the intersection of the primary art market and the edition market, producing and selling limited-edition prints, multiples and objects. It remains a privately held business, founded and owned by Helga Maria Klosterfelde, and continues to be active in the German and international art scene.
