Overview

Klif Shopping & Office Centre is a Polish commercial brand that operates a portfolio of retail and office properties. According to its official website, the brand encompasses three main objects: Dom Mody Klif (Klif Fashion House) in Warsaw, Galeria Klif in Gdynia, and Klif Tower office building in Warsaw. The website invites visitors to explore the unique salons, discreet service, and restaurant and café offerings at each location. The Warsaw property, Dom Mody Klif, is a shopping centre located at ul. Okopowa 58/72. It was officially opened on 3 March 1999, built on the site of a former leather factory that had operated since the 19th century. The complex also includes a 16-storey office building with a usable area of 9,052 m². In 2020, the centre housed 112 shops, three restaurants, two cafés, and a fitness club. In 2009, both the Warsaw and Gdynia Klif centres were awarded the Grand Prix for the best shopping centre in Poland during the 8th edition of the Shopping Center Forum & Awards. The jury recognised their unique tenant mix, modern and unique design, high functionality, innovation, location, and marketing and PR activities. The brand has faced a tragic event: on 31 May 2002, a shooting occurred at the shopping centre, resulting in two deaths, as part of a gang war in Warsaw. A 12-year prison sentence for incitement to murder was handed down in 2017. Klif continues to operate as a commercial brand in Poland, with its website serving as a portal for its three properties.

History

The history of the Klif brand is closely tied to the site of its Warsaw property. From the 1870s, the area at ul. Okopowa 58/72 housed a tannery owned by Stanisław Fryderyk Pfeiffer and later his sons. In 1909, the Pfeiffer factory was the largest tanning enterprise in Poland. During the Warsaw Uprising, the factory grounds were the site of mass executions of approximately 5,000 Poles and Jews, and the plant was completely destroyed. After the war, the area was used by the Warsaw Tanning Works and the Intaglio Printing Works. After their demolition, the Warsaw Shopping Centre Klif was built on the site of the former factory, officially opening on 3 March 1999. On 19 February 2009, during the 8th edition of the Shopping Center Forum & Awards, both the Warsaw and Gdynia Klif centres were honoured with the Grand Prix award for the best shopping centre in Poland. The jury appreciated the unique selection of tenants, modern and unique design, high functionality, innovation, location, and marketing and PR activities. In 2020, the centre housed 112 shops, three restaurants, two cafés, and a fitness club. The complex also includes a 16-storey office building with a usable area of 9,052 m². On 31 May 2002, a shooting occurred at the shopping centre, resulting in the deaths of two men. The event was part of an ongoing gang war in Warsaw. The main target of the attack, "Komandos", escaped but was shot dead three months later. In 2017, a sentence of 12 years' imprisonment for incitement to murder (including "Komandos") was handed down. The official website of Klif presents the brand as encompassing three properties: Dom Mody Klif in Warsaw, Galeria Klif in Gdynia, and Klif Tower office building in Warsaw. The website provides information about brands, events, salons, discreet service, and restaurant and café offerings.
