History
Kleeblatt Pflegeheime traces its origins to the late 1980s, when about 450 care places were expected to be needed in the Landkreis Ludwigsburg. According to the official history, Walter Lees, former managing director of Kleeblatt Pflegeheime, recalled that the aim was to avoid large nursing homes with at least one hundred beds, as was then common, and instead distribute the needed places across small homes with a maximum of 30 beds, creating a care infrastructure in each municipality. Experts in elderly care were sceptical and advised against the idea, considering small nursing homes financially unviable, but the concept of organising the Kleeblatt homes as an association under a common roof convinced them. In 1989, the district and ten towns and municipalities joined to form the non-profit Kleeblatt Pflegeheime GmbH. In each location a Kleeblatt Pflegeheim with assisted senior apartments was built, resulting in 245 care places and 140 assisted-living apartments. The organisation states it has been active since 1989 and has more than 30 years of experience, innovation and reliability in the Landkreis Ludwigsburg.
