    Iroquois Theatre disaster

The Iroquois Theatre in Chicago, partly owned by Klaw and Erlanger and booked by them, burned during a holiday matinee on December 30, 1903. More than 600 people died. The partners faced intense public criticism and civil and criminal litigation concerning the theater’s safety and management. Their libel action against Life magazine over an attack related to the disaster was dismissed.
