Stock-option backdating investigation and accounting allegations
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission charged KLA-Tencor and former chief executive Kenneth L. Schroeder over allegations that stock-option grants had been improperly backdated. The SEC alleged that the practice concealed more than $200 million in stock-option compensation and caused materially misleading financial disclosures. The company subsequently settled related securities litigation for $65 million in 2008.
