Overview

Kinkei System Corporation (株式会社近計システム) is a Japanese manufacturer headquartered in Suminoe-ku, Osaka, that develops, manufactures and sells products in three core domains: power systems, security systems and disaster-prevention systems. Under the management philosophy of 'social contribution', the company positions itself as a specialist in monitoring, recording and analysis technologies for critical infrastructure. Its power system business supplies automatic oscillographs (disturbance recorders), fault locators, power quality monitors, remote equipment monitoring systems, test and measurement instruments, master clocks, photovoltaic generation monitoring and energy management/measurement products, contributing to the S+3E concept of safety, stable supply, economic efficiency and environmental compatibility. The security system business offers one-stop physical security solutions including visitor reception and reservation systems, security gates and access control systems, as well as cloud systems for service robots. The disaster-prevention business provides seismic intensity observation systems, earthquake alarm control systems and monitoring systems for volcanoes, ground, environment and structures. The company traces its origins to 1947, when the predecessor entity 'Kagaku no Mise Co., Ltd.' was established, later renamed Kansai Electric Commerce Co., Ltd. In 1962, Noboru Takizawa spun off the instrument division to found Kinki Keisoku Kikai Co., Ltd. (近畿計測器株式会社) with capital of 3.5 million yen and a team of twelve. The company grew through the 1970s and 1980s, expanding capital, opening branch offices in Tokyo, Fukuoka and Sendai, and changing its name to Kinkei System Co., Ltd. in 1985. It has received numerous awards, including the Shibusawa Prize for a power system stability recording device in 1983 and again in 2025 for a hybrid transmission-line fault location system, the Ohm Technology Award in 1988, and recognition from Kyoto University for contributions to Philippine earthquake research in 1990. The company moved its head office to Suminoe-ku, Minami-kō in 2002 and has obtained ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO/IEC 27001 certifications. Today Kinkei System remains a privately held, Osaka-based specialist serving electric utilities, industrial facilities, schools, hospitals and public infrastructure. Its product lineup includes the TA-300B circuit breaker/disconnector tester, KSI-100 compact seismometer, General Standard Gate GSG, remote monitoring systems, heavy rain patrol support system LST-2000, synchronous phasor measurement unit AMT-7000, digital voltage/current phase difference meter PHA-200B, Weather Resist Gate WRG, volcano observation data logger/telemeter VSE series, ultra-low power 400 MHz radio RMA-400T/400R, velocity-type seismic sensor KVS-300/100, Tower Flap Gate TFG, Web entry/exit GWS-2000, PV remote monitoring unit MMC-1000-P, self-consumption output control unit MMC1002-BL-01 and surge-reception fault locator SFL-2000. The company continues to develop technologies for carbon neutrality, DX and disaster resilience.

History

The company's history begins in 1947 with the establishment of Kagaku no Mise Co., Ltd. (株式会社科学の店), which later became Kansai Electric Commerce Co., Ltd. (関西電気商品株式会社) and then Kansai Electric Trading Co., Ltd. (関西電気商事株式会社). In 1962, Noboru Takizawa separated and independently established the instrument division of Kansai Electric Commerce as Kinki Keisoku Kikai Co., Ltd. (近畿計測器株式会社) with capital of 3.5 million yen. The new company started with twelve people, including Takizawa, Noboru Nishigaki in sales, Fujisuke Hamanishi, Masaru Takemura in general affairs and accounting, and Kenichi Nakamura in engineering. In 1973, the head office building was completed in Hirano-ku, Osaka. Capital was increased to 14 million yen in 1976, 30 million yen in 1978, and 37.5 million yen in 1980. A Tokyo office was opened in Ueno, Taito-ku, Tokyo in 1980. In 1982, offices were opened in Fukuoka and Sendai. In 1983, the Tokyo office was promoted to Tokyo sales office, and the company received the Shibusawa Prize for its power system stability recording device. In 1984, the Fukuoka office was promoted to Fukuoka sales office. In 1985, the company changed its name to Kinkei System Co., Ltd. (株式会社近計システム). Capital was increased to 84.37 million yen in 1986. In 1988, the Nanko factory was completed in Suminoe-ku, Osaka, and Kinkei Service Co., Ltd. was established as a wholly owned subsidiary. The artificial ground fault test device (DM-1000) received the Ohm Technology Award, and the company published 'Automatic Oscillograph Reader' supervised by Kyoto University Professor Emeritus Chikasa Uenosono. In 1990, the Sendai office was promoted to Sendai sales office, and the company received a letter of appreciation from Kyoto University for contributions to research on the Philippine earthquake. In 1996, the company obtained ISO 9001 certification. In 1997, the Tokyo sales office was promoted to Tokyo branch, and the company received the Small and Medium Enterprise Research Center Award for its management results as a leading company in automatic oscillographs. The digital voltage/current phase difference meter (PHA-100) received the Director-General of the Small and Medium Enterprise Agency Award. In 2002, the head office was relocated to Minami-kō, Suminoe-ku, Osaka, consolidating head office functions. ISO 9001 was transitioned to the 2000 version in 2003, and ISO 14001 certification was obtained in 2005. In 2008, the NW fault location system received the Electrical Science and Technology Encouragement Award, and 'Automatic Oscillograph Utilization Technology' was published. ISO 9001 was transitioned to the 2008 version in 2010, and ISO/IEC 27001 certification was obtained in 2011.
