Its sister label Nite Grooves, launched in 1994, focuses on darker underground, techno, tech house, deep house, lounge, leftfield, abstract, and experimental productions. History

King Street Sounds began with the Paradise Garage nightclub, home of Larry Levan, whose influence shaped dance music luminaries such as Francois Kevorkian, David Morales, Louie Vega, and Junior Vasquez. Born of this musical phenomenon in 1993 was BPM King Street Sounds, founded by Hisa Ishioka to continue the ten-year tradition of soulful-spiritual house music the club helped birth from the late 1970s to the late 1980s. The label has established itself as one of the finest and most respected dance music labels, releasing soulful and vocal house, deep house, and Afro/Latin/Jazz excursions, and remains one of the few consistently strong independent labels. Its sister label Nite Grooves, to the left of King Street's center, launched in 1994 and releases darker, more underground, techno, tech house, deep house, lounge, leftfield, abstract, and experimental productions. In 2024 King Street Sounds underwent a relaunch, marked by a documentary from Armada Music and Beatport. In 2025, Dennis Ferrer's 2006 debut album 'The World As I See It' was reissued on vinyl as an official Record Store Day 2025 release, the first time all ten tracks were available in one vinyl package, available at participating retailers across the U.S. and U.K. from April 12, 2025.
