Overview
Kimball Farm is a family-run business that has been serving homemade ice cream and summer fun since 1939, when Jack and Clara Kimball converted the family woodshed into an ice cream parlor. Today it operates four locations in Westford, MA, Carlisle, MA, Lancaster, MA, and Jaffrey, NH, offering more than 50 flavors of homemade ice cream, fresh seafood, and outdoor activities. The business was passed down to Jack's grandsons, Michael and Peter Kimball, in 1988, and Peter still runs it today.
History
Kimball Farm began in 1939 when Jack Kimball and his wife Clara converted the family's woodshed into an ice cream parlor. The farmhouse in Westford that is now the ice cream stand began as a dairy barn in 1908, when the Kimball family sold milk wholesale. In 1934, two salesmen selling freezer cabinets and ice cream mix suggested the Kimballs make ice cream. In 1975, Jack and Clara moved the ice cream operation into the barn where it remains today, becoming the first location of Kimball Farm Ice Cream. The original flavors included maple walnut, frozen pudding, and peppermint stick. In 1988, the business was passed down to Jack's grandsons, Michael and Peter Kimball; Peter still runs the business today. The Carlisle Ice Cream Stand opened in 1989, the Jaffrey, NH location opened in 1995, and Lancaster opened in 2010. All ice cream is homemade at the Westford location, and the other three locations receive deliveries of fresh ice cream several times each week.
