Overview
Kienle + Spiess is a German industrial brand and corporate group that produces components for electric drives, specifically rotors and stators. Founded in 1935 as Kienle und Spiess Stanzwerk und Schnittbau in Großsachsenheim, the company grew into one of the leading suppliers of electric motors and generators. Its products are used in industrial applications, motor vehicles, household appliances, and renewable energy systems. At its peak, the group employed around 1,000 people and was headquartered in Sachsenheim, Baden-Württemberg, with additional national and international locations. The company's history includes several ownership changes. In 2000, it was acquired by European Electrical Steels Ltd., part of the British Corus Group, ending family ownership. In 2006, it was taken over by Bavaria Industriekapital AG and became known as the Kienle + Spiess Group. From April 2013 to 2022, it belonged to the Sumitomo Group based in Tokyo. Since 2022, the companies of the Kienle + Spiess Group have been part of Feintool International Holding AG, headquartered in Lyss, Switzerland, and the former parent plant operates as Feintool System Parts Sachsenheim GmbH. In December 2024, Feintool announced the closure of the Sachsenheim plant and the relocation of production to Hungary. Kienle + Spiess holds patents on processes and technologies, including the IEC standard motor series and the Glulock adhesive packaging process. The company developed the permanently excited synchronous motors KSPM. The GeoShift system is designed to make the stamping process for T-segment laminations safer and more precise. The brand remains active as part of Feintool, though its original German manufacturing site is being wound down.
