Overview
Kidnap Music is a German independent record label focused on punk rock, based in St. Wendel in the Saarland region. It began as a fanzine run by Alex Pascow, which he expanded into a mail-order operation before founding the label proper in 1998. The label is closely associated with the band Pascow, which Alex Pascow founded and which released its music through Kidnap Music from 2001 onward. Over time, the label grew by adding befriended bands and presents itself as a DIY enterprise. In November 2003, after Measy joined, Kidnap Music launched the online shop Tante Guerilla, which at times also operated physical stores in St. Wendel, Trier and Saarbrücken. In 2019 the label and webshop separated from the brick-and-mortar shops, which subsequently closed. Distribution of Kidnap Music releases is handled by Cargo Records; earlier the label worked with Plastic Bomb and its mail-order. Since the album "Alles muss kaputt sein", Pascow's releases have appeared via Rookie Records, with Kidnap Music acting as a cooperation partner. Beyond its own label catalogue, Tante Guerilla sells scene-typical clothing brands, skateboarding supplies, music and various accessories. Tante Guerilla also serves as the publishing name for Kidnap Music's book releases, which so far have been limited to works by Alexander Gräbeldinger. Kidnap Music and Tante Guerilla are registered as Gesellschaften bürgerlichen Rechts (civil-law partnerships). In 2018 the label signed the Swedish band The Baboon Show. Other bands on the label include Love A, Acht Eimer Hühnerherzen and Akne Kid Joe. The label continues to announce new releases, tours and re-pressings through its website and newsletter, including a gold vinyl re-press of Berlin 2.0's album and a new Baits album co-released with Rookie Records.
